DATA’s Picture Perfect Photography Unit
What does it take to capture the perfect shot? Design and Technology Academy (DATA) students at Ed White Middle School received a fun crash course on the topic.
Kara Leyva went the extra mile to create an immersive photography unit in her Principles of Arts, Audio/Visual Communications class. Students dove into the world of Canon DSLR cameras, mastering the key components and learning how to capture the perfect shot.
They also heard from talented local professional photographer Melissa Lindsey, who shared her expertise and career insights with the class. To make things even more fun, Soda Pop Hendrix from the National Wrestlers Association modeled for the students, giving them a unique opportunity to photograph a professional wrestler!
Students also took part in the local Hot Shoe Photography Contest, where five seventh graders were recognized for their work at a local art exhibition. Congratulations to Chase Comeaux, Ashlyn Manuel, Anthony Campa, Hannah McNew and Ardin Doublin for that honor.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, students also practiced their portrait skills by honoring Hispanic staff members on campus. They took portraits, conducted interviews, edited their photos using Adobe Lightroom, and designed posters in Adobe Photoshop to showcase these amazing individuals.
“This unit truly brought out the creativity and passion in each student,” said Leyva.
