Johnson Wind Ensemble ranks among best in Texas
Congratulations to Johnson High School’s Wind Ensemble!
This talented group recently placed 5th overall in the 6A Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band Contest. This is essentially the ‘state championship’ of concert bands in Texas.
The Wind Ensemble worked extremely hard to prepare three pieces beginning in January of 2024, which culminated in a series of recorded concerts in May. Three of these recordings were submitted to TMEA Region 12. In June, the Wind Ensemble's recordings placed 1st at Area and then advanced to the State Semifinals, which were held at Johnson High School on July 24th. Those recordings then advanced to the finals round at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and placed among the top wind ensembles in the state.
This is the fifth time that Johnson High School has entered the final round of the prestigious contest. Congratulations to our students, Director of Bands Robert Lozano and the entire program!
