Join the club

Students are finding their passions at Wetmore Elementary School. Once a month, the entire school goes into “club mode.” Students can choose from art club, book club, yoga, and more than a dozen other clubs to find something they truly enjoy. Then, once a month, for about an hour the students get to take part in some really hands-on and fun learning experiences. And since the clubs are held during the school day, everyone can participate, and it doesn’t disrupt parent schedules.

Recently, students in the third through fifth-grade cooking club made a fruit salad. Third-grade teacher Christine Perez and Clinic Assistant Nicole Sosa sponsor that club. They worked with the students on their knife skills, helping them use their plastic knives to cut up strawberries and bananas. The highlight of the day, though, was making whipped cream from scratch.

Every NEISD campus has clubs and organizations for students to get involved with and find their passions #theNEISDway
