Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose

Think about some of the items in your household. How can you reuse, recycle and repurpose them during your daily routine? Tex Hill Middle School sixth graders embraced that challenge on Earth Day throughout several stations in the library.

“There’s a saying called think global, act local,” said Teresa Diaz, Tex Hill Librarian. “When you leave here, think about how you can put into practice some of the things you learned today. There are many things you can do to help the planet and make a difference.”

Diaz instructs students on their Earth Day rotationsThe Earth Day Team Challenge split students into groups as they navigated stations that broke down the cause and effect of topics like air quality, recycling, plastic in the ocean and endangered or protected species. One station even challenged them to properly sort items into plastic, compost or trash bins.

The role of a librarian is an expansive one. They are teachers, collaborators and campus leaders. It’s not uncommon for Diaz to collaborate with teachers hoping to highlight a particular subject or topic.

The results speak for themselves. When librarians like Teresa Diaz get involved, every student wins.
