Dr. Glendelia M. Zavala

I'm very excited to serve as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary for seven years now and look forward to another great year despite the COVID-19 challenges that everyone is facing at this time.  A variety of interesting and fun classes will be offered virtually for parents and members of the Montgomery community via the Family Engagement Leadership Acadey in five domain areas:  Parenting, Life Skills and General Knowledge, Health, Safety and Nutrition, Academic Skills and Leadership and Community Service.

I am happy to serve as the PTA liaison and am always looking for smiling volunteers. Additionally, I serve as the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) Coordinator and assist with placement of English Language Learners.

I attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake but answered a higher calling to become a teacher.  I earned my Lifetime Texas Teaching Certificate through the Alternative Education Program at The University of Texas-Pan American and taught 6th grade Math and Reading in South Texas. During that time, I earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from The University of Texas-Pan American. Shortly thereafter, I was selected to receive a Kellogg Fellowship from the Hispanic Border Leadership Institute to earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of Texas-Pan American which I completed in 2002.

I have a passion for empowering others through education and am delighted to serve as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary School.

We want to hear from you!
