Dr. Glendelia M. Zavala

Hello.  I have served as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary for six years now and am excited about the great things that will be happening on campus this year.  I offer a variety of interesting and fun classes for parents and members of the Montgomery community through Parent Academy in six domain areas:  Parenting, Life Skills and General Knowledge, Health, Safety and Nutrition, Academic Skills and Art and Cultural Awareness.  I also serve as the PTA liaison and am always looking for smiling volunteers. Additionally, I serve as the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) Coordinator and assist with placement of English Language Learners.

I attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.  I earned my Lifetime Texas Teaching Certificate through the Alternative Education Program at The University of Texas-Pan American and have been in the field of Education for 24 years.

I taught 6th grade Math and Reading in South Texas and earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from The University of Texas-Pan American during that time. Shortly thereafter, I was selected to receive a Kellogg Fellowship from the Hispanic Border Leadership Institute to earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of Texas-Pan American which I completed in 2002.

I have a passion for empowering others through education and am delighted to serve as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary School.
