Jaime Guerra knows little things matter

POSTED FEBRUARY 2024

Jaime GuerraJaime Guerra knows how important it is to make genuine connections with his students at Wetmore Elementary School. Some days, that means simply playing a game of Uno in the gym.

A small but powerful moment recently caught the attention of substitute Bill Prevo while working at Wetmore. He shared the following note with Wetmore Principal Ida Nunez, applauding Coach Guerra for going the extra mile to connect with his students.

"I had the pleasure of assisting Coach Guerra as his assistant substitute. I have to tell you that this was one of my most rewarding weeks as a substitute. He is compassionate but firm, as he guides all the grade levels to achieve physical fitness goals.

I thought I would share with you one of the things he does outside his regular duties to help mentor those students who may need extra help. This picture was taken Friday morning (1/12/24) during his conference period, where he simply placed 3 five-gallon plastic containers on the floor and played a game of UNO with a student of his who he thought would benefit from the "one-on-one" time outside the classroom/gym.

Coach Guerra is a valuable Wetmore team player, and I hope you can recognize him in some special way."

Thank you, Coach Guerra, for making a difference #theNEISDway.
