We are "sew" thankful for FELA!

Olmos FELA members learn how to sew

We are “sew” thankful for the North East ISD Family Engagement Leadership Academy

More than 10 parents, grandparents and guardians gathered at Olmos Elementary School to take sewing lessons from Katalina Reyes. She has been sewing for more than 30 years and was excited to share her skillset with the Olmos community.

This free sewing class is just one great opportunity our Family Engagement Leadership Academy (FELA) provides.

“One of the best things about this class is that it will really boost their self-esteem and the knowledge that their hands can create something that’s not only beautiful but also useful,” said Olmos Family Specialist Lillian Esparza. “The classes are also rich in resources and provide the opportunity to learn new things and share with others.”

You can take part in this meaningful activity in several ways.

If you have fabric, thread and sewing needles you would like to donate to the group, please contact Esparza via email

If you are interested in joining our FELA, just reach out to your child’s Family Specialist or connect with a Family Engagement Liaison.
