North East ISD visits Washington, D.C.

Students in front of Capitol

Students from Nimitz Middle School and Roosevelt High School are in Washington, D.C. this week. They are taking part in the Military Child Education Coalition Global Summit. This conference is just one of the many learning opportunities our Student 2 Student (S2S) members have to gain new skills.

S2S connects civilian students with new military students the day they arrive to ensure they have a friendly face to answer questions, show them around, eat lunch with and more. NEISD is proud to have the S2S program in place at every elementary, middle and high school.

Hardy Oak Elementary School, Driscoll Middle School and Nimitz Middle School were all finalists for S2S Team of the Year award this year.  While they didn’t take home the top prize, our teams are regularly in the running. Nimitz brought home the Middle School Team of the Year last year. This trip also gives our students invaluable insight on how they can continue to make our schools even more welcoming to new and military-connected students.
