Clean Cuts and Confidence.
The sound of buzzing clippers and laughter filled a workroom at Olmos Elementary School this week.
Students were offered free haircuts and snacks to get them ready for their first day of school.
Legacy of Education Excellence (LEE) High School Cosmetology teacher Ashley Pierson and barbers from Dapper G Barbershop offered their services free to the kids.
“It brings the community in and lets them know we are here for them,” said Pierson. “We offer a lot of trades training at LEE, and it gives the elementary kids some perspective and goal to they can work toward.”
One mother of two Olmos students was very thankful for the opportunity to save a little money as her girls get ready for the upcoming school year.
“This is very important,” she said. “I was trying to get a haircut for them, but it was going to be about $40 each, so this is very important to save me money for back-to-school clothes and all the things that come along with starting school.”
After her first-grade daughter finished getting her hair cut, she said she was so excited to start the new school year with her new haircut that kind of looked like mommy’s.
