It’s a tradition for North East ISD to contribute to the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner. For years, colorful placemats and centerpieces crafted by students across the District brightened up the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as thousands sat down to eat on Thanksgiving Day.
While COVID-19 has changed the logistics of the annual holiday meal, it hasn’t stopped NEISD elementary students from sharing a heartfelt message with others.
“Instead of placemats and centerpieces, all of the elementary children made Thanksgiving cards,” said Linda Fleetwood, NEISD Director of Visual Arts. “We literally have thousands of cards boxed up and ready to go. The children loved doing it and our elementary teachers were excited about doing it too.”
This year, Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner meals are being delivered and thanks to NEISD students, each meal comes with a special card wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving.
