Reagan readies to launch new Business Incubator course
Many great products start with a simple idea. In the coming months, students at Reagan High School will be able to foster their entrepreneurial spirit through the Business Incubator program. The course will launch in the 2020-2021 school year at Reagan as a way for students to learn the ins and outs of business in a real-world atmosphere.
The products and businesses that students will have the chance to develop are much more than grand ideas, they’re real. Students will work in teams to develop and plan the marketing, accounting and legal aspects of their business startup.
“They’re going to walk away with the technical know-how and knowledge to be able to start a business,” said Danya Martin, Business and Technology teacher. “They’re also going to walk away with those soft skills of how to communicate as a team. A big part of it is learning to fail and figuring out how to pivot and come up with a different or better idea. They’re going to fail and have to start over, and we’re there to support them through that.”
The new program will incorporate business partners, volunteers and mentors who have valuable experience in the field. This level of professional development will test the students and empower them to grow alongside their product. The young entrepreneurs will have the chance to pitch their product in front of actual investors in a Shark Tank-style forum.
