Driscoll Culinary Club learns from experienced chef

Students in Driscoll Middle School’s Culinary Club received a crash course in fine dining and the hospitality industry at the San Antonio restaurant, Periphery. Culinary Club sponsors Heidi Curry and Anne Joy accompanied nine students for a taste test and question-and-answer session with owner Mark Weaver. The students and staff from Driscoll were treated to a delicious four-course meal at the restaurant before asking Weaver about his creative process and connection to aspiring chefs.

“It’s good that there’s a place where kids can interact with food and develop a healthy relationship with it,” said Weaver. “Kids should know the basics of cooking and how to create healthy dishes that taste good.”

The Culinary Club gives students at Driscoll the opportunity to focus on health, nutrition and hands-on cooking skills in an engaging, collaborative way.
