McKinney program hosts dinner for special graduates
On May 24, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Project held its 6th Annual Resilient Graduates Dinner to honor specially selected homeless seniors who have overcome great obstacles to reach graduation. Each student carries with them a narrative of triumph over their circumstances, mostly unbeknownst to their fellow classmates. The North East ISD Homeless Liaisons that provide support for these incredible students are given the opportunity to see their stories and recognize them for their efforts through this dinner.
This dinner and ceremony served to acknowledge students who have modeled great courage and perseverance. Six graduating seniors and their chosen guest were invited to attend the event, graciously sponsored by Louis Barrios and Family at Los Barrios Mexican Restaurant. During the award presentation, each senior was presented with a plaque and gift basket with generous donations from local companies and organizations in support of their achievements.
The NEISD McKinney-Vento Homeless Project is committed to ensuring that all NEISD children and youth in homeless situations have the opportunity to succeed in school. Each year, McKinney-Vento Homeless Project assists more than 1,400 homeless students in the District by providing support, guidance and resources to ensure student success.
