6th Grade Science Syllabus

Mrs. Shedd’s 6th Grade Science Syllabus

Class Description:

In 6th grade science class students will cover a wide range of topics including the scientific method and laboratory procedures, physics, energy, geology, chemistry, biology, and astronomy.  I believe science class should be educational AND fun.  Good science requires testing through experimentation and observation.  Students will complete laboratory experiments on a weekly basis, when possible.

Class Expectations:

Be Prompt - On-time arrival ensures maximum learning time.

Be Prepared - Always have a pencil and your journal ready.

Be Productive - We have to make every minute count.

Be Positive - Let’s help each other make the best of every situation.

Be Polite - Kindness counts!  Please and thank you!

BE SAFE - A safe science classroom is a fun science classroom.

Class Grading Policy:

There are three grading categories:

Daily Work (60%) - Classwork, Science Starters, Labs

Science Journal (10%) - Minimum twice per unit journal check

Tests/Quizzes/Projects (30%) - Minimum one test per unit plus quizzes

All students are encouraged to check their own grades through Skyward.

All students are responsible for make-up work when absent.

Students MUST ask for their missed work upon return to school.  A file containing missed assignments is available for any student to use.  Missed assignments do include journal entries which can be found in the teacher journal for each class period.
