Hello Jags!!!
My name is Coach Barrera and I am a proud product of NEISD, where I graduated from Madison High School in 2001. I have 16 years of coaching experience, all at North East.  This is my fourth year here at Jackson. I serve as a coach in 8th grade football, 8th grade basketball, 7th/8th boys track and as a P.E. teacher.  I am also the Boys Athletic Coordinator.

Growing up I loved all sports, but my real passion was baseball. After my high school playing days were over, I enrolled in the University of Texas at San Antonio. At UTSA, I  originally thought I wanted to be a physical therapist. However, one summer my old baseball coach asked me to coach the summer baseball team and my passion for coaching was ignited. I quickly changed majors and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in History and certifications in Social Studies, Health, and Physical Education. I have taught at Madison HS, Reagan HS, Harris MS, and Jackson MS. I've coached football, basketball, track, tennis, and baseball in my 16 year career.

I am married to a beautiful woman named Melissa, who is a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. We're a blended family with 4 children.  Our family loves to cruise, camp, hike, play board games, visit Schlitterbahn, and hang out with friends and family.
