Aware Scanner Software Troubleshooting
  • IMPORTANT NOTE (added 5/3/23):

The Brother Scanners are no longer supported for software updates and support by Eduphoria Aware. If your Brother scanner is functioning and teachers are using it, you can continue to use it. Please contact Performance & Accountability (PandA@neisd.net) for support and training to move towards Aware online testing, if you have student devices to support this for your content area/grade level. However, if you have trouble with the Brother scanner and it no longer functions properly, please contact the person in charge of CRMS to determine how to dispose of the Brother scanner. If you would like to purchase a new Brother scanner that would be supported by Eduphoria Aware for troubleshooting and updates, then please see the Technology Pricing Page for that item.

    IT HAS NOT DISAPPEARED!

    1. Look at your answer document. Do you see a rectangular box like either of these:

    2. Go to the Analyze tab. Click the blue Test Available link.

    3. Find the assessment. Hover over the area in the red rectangle below:

    NO?

Then uninstall the Brother Driver and reinstall the new Brother Driver (version G2).

The Brother driver will need to be uninstalled manually from software center.  The instructions are as follows:

    1. Disconnect the Brother scanner from your computer
    2. Run the application called "Brother Uninstall Tool - Driver Cleanup Utility" located in software center. This will cleanly remove the old driver files and ensure proper installation of the new driver. To locate the Brother Uninstall Tool, simply type the word "brother" into the Software Center search bar.
    3. Under the Laser/LED Multi-function tab, select model “DCP-L5650DN series”.  Click OK.
    4. DO NOT RECONNECT the scanner/printer until the new driver has been installed.
    5. Once the uninstall is complete then you can run the new “Brother Driver version G2 (Updated driver for Brother DCP-L5650DN.)” from software center.
