Design and Technology Academy (DATA)

  • The Design and Technology Academy (DATA) is a specialized magnet program at the middle school and high school levels, which provides a small learning community and rigorous curriculum to foster intellectual and creative abilities. The middle school curriculum focuses on computer coding, programming, and information technology to build the foundation for the high school emphasis of Architecture, Design & Arts, Graphic Design, Animation, and Video Production. DATA provides a rigorous college preparation program building on key design concepts across the curriculum including content area and elective courses.

    The DATA Experience

    • Students entering DATA as freshmen have the opportunity to be a part of a smaller learning cohort with core classes being held together allowing an integrated content approach. All freshmen and sophomores will take common classes in English, History, and Science to build a cohesive learning cohort and to build strong relationships with each other and their teachers.
    • All DATA middle school students have the opportunity to earn up to 5.5 high school credits while taking part in the DATA program. All high school students take honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment courses enabling them to have the opportunity to earn college credit.
    • DATA students and faculty embrace our core values of perseverance, integrity, commitment, and kindness in all that they do.
    • At DATA, we inspire tomorrow’s innovators today in a service-oriented community that promotes communication, critical thinking, and creativity in a collaborative learning environment. All DATA students are required to complete community service hours each year.
  • What is a Magnet Program?

    • Magnet programs at NEISD are dynamic and rewarding pathways to college, trade schools, or in-demand careers.
    • We provide programs that give students a clear advantage after graduation.
    • Through the Career Technical Education (CTE) department, NEISD is able to offer courses on our middle and high school campuses—giving students the chance to maintain friendships and mentorships at their home campus.
    • Each year CTE courses are able to provide students the opportunity to earn industry-based certifications and credit at little to no cost.
