District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC)

In compliance with Education Code 11.251, the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) shall advise the Board or its designee. NEISD believes in a collaborative approach when making districtwide decisions. Through our partnership with DEIC, we review the district’s educational goals annually and develop intentional plans to support districtwide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board or its designee.
The DEIC serves exclusively in an advisory role except that the council shall approve staff development of a Districtwide nature.
DEIC Meetings

DEIC meetings are held at RAMEC at 4:30pm.
Some meetings may be held at NEISD campuses. Changes in location will be posted before the meeting date.October 2, 2024

It is comprised of campus based professional staff, District-level professional staff, parents, business leaders and community members.

May I nominate myself to serve on the DEIC?
Yes, during the designated nomination period.

Who is eligible to serve on the DEIC?
Certified staff assigned to campuses and central office including but not limited to teachers, counselors, librarians, instructional coaches, deans, registered nurses, assistant principals, principals, and directors.

Who is eligible to vote?
The same employees who are eligible to serve.

I am a teaching assistant. May I vote?
No, state law does not include teaching assistants.

I am an elementary teacher. May I vote for a secondary teacher?
May I vote for a counselor? Yes to both.

How often will the committee meet?
At least four times each year.

What time of day will meetings be held?
Meetings are held after the regular school day, usually at 4:30 p.m.

If I am elected, how long will I serve?
The standard term is two years.

How many terms may I serve?
Two consecutive terms.

Is membership limited to grade levels, attendance areas or subject areas?
The council consists of four elementary teachers, four middle school teachers, four high school teachers, five non-teaching campus-based professional employees, and one nonteaching district-level employee. In addition, the Superintendent will appoint a parent from each cluster, two community members, and two business representatives.
