North East ISD is proud to celebrate the Summa Cum Laude students at Johnson High School. These ceremonies honor the incredible accomplishments of the dedicated students who are graduating from high school with grade point averages above 100. These young men and women mastered every academic test we placed before them and exceeded the highest standards, but they wouldn’t be here without the teachers who inspired them.
Meghana Basani is one of Johnson’s incredible Summa candidates. Tonight, she will honor a teacher who encouraged her passion for science.
“Learning in Mr. Velasquez’s class was a new experience everyday. There was always a surprise or two waiting for us right at the door, whether that be a pop quiz or free food. Mr. V. allowed me to view biology in a whole new perspective, demonstrating how the very basis of our existence is an exciting topic to study. He is the reason I decided to pursue biology as a major and continue my studies into the medical field. For that, I greatly appreciate him. P. S - Thank you for letting me steal your candy.”
Valeria Castro will be honoring the teacher who supported her when she needed it the most.
“Although I have been blessed by countless wonderful teachers, none have been quite as memorable as my fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Roy. Unknowingly, she helped a shy little nine-year-old girl adjust to life in a new country and overcome one of the toughest times of her life. She would eventually keep a special spot in my heart for years to come. Without her kindness, open heart, and most magical teaching ability, I don’t think I would have gotten to the place I am today. I am forever eternally grateful.”
