Johnson’s Kendra Grimm earns Exceptional Senior Award

Kendra Grimm smiles in her senior photoKendra Grimm is an exceptional student, and she has the accolades to prove it. The Johnson High School senior recently earned the Exceptional Senior Award (ESA) from Congressman Chip Roy. The recognition is presented to stellar seniors in Texas' 21st Congressional District.

“I felt a lot of emotions, but mostly honored to receive this prestigious award because I know there are so many students who work so hard and are so deserving,” said Kendra. “I know that I am a product of all the people who have mentored and taught me along the way, so I feel exceptionally excited to share this achievement with all of them.”

The Exceptional Senior Award is one of many feathers in Kendra’s graduation cap. She grew up attending Roan Forest Elementary School, Tejeda Middle School and Johnson, where she has racked up tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships. She plans to attend Baylor University this fall and will major in Biology and Health Science Studies. Her path to Baylor includes a $96,000 Distinction Scholarship Award. She hopes to return home one day to practice medicine in San Antonio.

Kendra has learned a lot during her time at North East ISD. She may be most proud of her ability to persevere no matter the circumstances.

“Over the past 13 years, there has been so many amazing moments, it's hard to choose just one,” said Kendra. “However, I really feel like it is when we are faced with adversity that we really discover who we are. During the coronavirus pandemic, we were able to see just how united we are as a District. It was so evident how supportive and committed NEISD was to continue to foster a successful learning environment even being virtual. Some people are quick to say that the time we spent online were years that we lost, but to me, I feel like we still gained so much as a community and have proven that if we can persevere through this then we can persevere through anything.”

Congratulations, Kendra!

Big or small, everyone has a story to tell.
