Mastering Teamwork & Technology

Encino Park students practice robotics

The objective of the Encino Park Elementary School fourth grade robotics team is a lot like basketball – they work together as a team to shoot and score.

Only they aren’t dribbling or passing. The “coders” and “drivers” are operating a robot on a rectangular field. The coders punch in codes that instruct the robot to pick up a ball, aim it at a target and hopefully knock it down to earn points.

The drivers are steering the robots with a controller, much like a video game, and operate with the same goal -- to score as many points as they can in a 60 second window.

It’s an incredible challenge that requires teamwork, collaboration, patience and troubleshooting. If something were to go wrong with the robot, it’s up to the kids to identify the problem and try to fix it as the clock winds down.

Robotics is one of our many extracurricular offerings that helps build ‘power skills’ like communication, leadership, and teamwork. These are all invaluable skills that will pay off for each child in every chapter of their life.

Encino Park is one of four campuses with teams advancing to the 2025 Texas Region 4 Elementary VEX IQ State Championship on Saturday, March 1.

Good luck to our teams from Encino Park, Stone Oak, Olmos and Coker!  🏆 🤖
