“It’s like reliving my own childhood with these kids.”

International School of the Americas (ISA) Senior Dylan McNish loves her after-school job. She works at the Kids’ Involvement Network (KIN) after-school program at Vineyard Ranch Elementary School.

“I remember being in KIN when I was a student at Huebner Elementary,” said McNish. “So, I thought it would be a lot of fun to see how it’s changed and be here with all these kids.”

Students in KIN get a healthy snack, socialization, recreational time and help with their homework. For Dylan, applying to help with KIN was a no-brainer. She remembers how the leaders in the program made her feel and helped her. It’s something she wants to offer her students.

“I was upset when I wasn’t with my parents, but KIN made me feel comfortable. The teachers made me feel comfortable, and they cared about me. Now, when a kid is upset, it feels so amazing when they come to me to help them. It feels so great to be that for other kids.”

For Dylan, there’s not a better after-school job out there. She gets to work with kids, which she plans to do after graduation. She’s going to major in child psychology. She also likes that the schedule is consistent, and she still has her weekends “to be a kid herself.”
