Ms. Kelsey Yates
I am an enthusiastic elementary school teacher with 4.5 years of experience. I graduated from the University of North Texas in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies. I was an adult probation officer for a year before I began my journey to become a teacher. I began teaching in January of 2016 and earned my teaching certificate January 2017. I have acquired relevant professional education and training to get the right concepts of teaching. I have hands on experience in facilitating and guiding: reading, writing, math, science, social studies and delivering intervention instruction. I possess a positive and effective teaching style with the willingness to work above and beyond the call of duty. I am currently teaching 5th grade self-contained. I am confident we are going to have a great year and we will work together to provide your student with the best education we can.
My Teaching Style
My primary teaching style is a mix between demonstrator and facilitator. I show students what they need to know with lessons that include multimedia presentations, activities, and demonstrations. I then promote self-learning by helping students develop critical thinking skills to retain knowledge that leads to self-actualization. I train students to ask questions and help them develop skills to find answers and solutions through exploration. This is done by interacting with my students and prompting them towards discovery rather than lecturing facts and testing knowledge through memorization. I also facilitate reading and math stations for targeted intervention and content mastery.
