Mrs. Rebecca Messimer

My name is Rebecca Messimer-Kitchen (pronounced Messy-mur). I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. Teaching is a big part of my family so it was only natural that I became a teacher as well. My father has been an elementary art teacher for almost 30 years, my mother was a clinical nurse educator before moving into the technical field, and my older sister is a literaure professor at The Savannah College of Art and Design. I am married to my wonderful husband, Charlie Kitchen, who works in arts non-profit and does art photography. We have two very cute and spoiled dogs together, Slayer and Elam.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher in high school. I attended a vocational program where I was to help my community by volunteering. When my teacher asked, "Where would you feel the least comfortable?", I told her, "Around children." So my teacher placed me in a Kindergarten class and although I was scared at first, I fell in love. I knew that teaching was what I was meant to do and it became my passion.

I attended Texas State University receiving my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Early Childhood Education through 6th Grade Education. I also received my Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification, also called English Second Language (ESL) certification. I am the Inclusion Kindergarten Teacher and Kindergarten Grade Level Leader for Montgomery Elementary School. This will be my sixth year teaching at Montgomery Elementary in Kindergarten. I LOVE Kindergarten and it is definitely my favorite grade to teach!

I enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, gardening, reading, cooking, and being with my fiance and dog, Slayer! I mostly spent this summer traveling through the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, and Californina) with my husband.
