Dr. Glendelia M. Zavala
I'm very excited to serve as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary. I've been in this role since 2014 and look forward to another great year. A variety of interesting and fun workshops and trainings will be offered in person and virtually for parents and members of the Montgomery community via the Family Engagement Leadership Academy in four domain areas: Parenting, Life Skills and General Knowledge, Academic Skills, and Health, Safety and Nutrition. Additionally, parents are encouraged to participate in Leadership and Community Service activities.
I am happy to serve as the PTA liaison and am always looking for smiling volunteers. Additionally, I serve as the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) Coordinator and assist with placement of English Language Learners.
My higher education career started at the University of Texas at Austin and will forever be a UT Longhorn fan, however, I completed my undergraduate program and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. I answered a higher calling to become a teacher and earned my Lifetime Texas Teaching Certificate. I taught 6th grade Math and Reading in South Texas and earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from The University of Texas-Pan American during that time. Shortly thereafter, I was selected to receive a Kellogg Fellowship from the Hispanic Border Leadership Institute to earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership which I completed from The University of Texas-Pan American.
I have a passion for empowering others through education and am delighted to serve as the Family Specialist at Montgomery Elementary School. I invite you to view the monthly Family Engagement trainings calendar and participate in any workshop that is of interest to you.
