Course descriptions and objectives:
Technology Applications: The Tech Apps curriculum for middle school includes the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills identified by the Texas Education Agency. This curriculum has four strands: foundations, information acquisition, work in solving problems, and communication. The course provides students an opportunity to acquire information in a variety of ways. Students complete projects involving work processing, databases, spreadsheets, multimedia, desktop publishing, graphics, and telecommunications.
Principles of Art. A/V & Communication: This course develops a strong background in computer and technology applications, a strong academic foundation, and a proficiency in oral and written communication. The student applies information technology applications when completing Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications projects. The student is expected to use information management, email, Internet, writing and publishing, presentation and spreadsheet or database applications.
Principles of Human Services: This comprehensive laboratory course is designed to address a broad range of knowledge and skills related to personal development and management, family and community and preparation of adult roles. Influences of societal and technological changes, high demand human service careers and management of the nutritional needs and dietary practices are included. Students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences such as career and technical student organizations and other leadership or extracurricular organizations.
