Subbing runs in the family!

Jerry and Abigail hold the NEISD way sign at MacArthur with text and logos

Subbing at MacArthur High School is a family affair for Jerry and Abigail Call. The grandfather and granddaughter duo both serve as substitute teachers at MacArthur often. It’s something they both enjoy for different reasons.

Abigail is a product of North East ISD. She grew up attending Northwood Elementary School, Garner Middle School and then MacArthur, where she graduated in 2016. Subbing has been the perfect fit for her as she searches for a full-time position.

“A lot of my former teachers and coaches are still here,” said Abigail. “And now I’m subbing for them. So that’s been fun. I like the flexibility of it too.”

For Jerry, a retired teacher and coach himself, he missed the school setting after retirement.

“I started subbing because I missed being around the kids and the coaches,” said Jerry. “My kids went to school at MacArthur, and we had a great experience. I love coming here because I know everybody, and the coaches treat me like I’m one of them.”

Whether you’re part-time, full-time or a substitute – you’re part of the team at North East ISD.
