Born and raised #theNEISDway

Reagan holds the NEISD way sign with text

Reagan Beres is a Brahma through and through. She can’t remember life without MacArthur High School, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I love MacArthur so much,” said Beres. “I always say I started here in 1972. My sister was a Brahmadora. She would take me to practice because I couldn’t stay home alone. And I just loved it, so they started incorporating me into the routine and I become the junior Brahmadora. They got me a uniform and I performed at halftime, and I felt like part of the school.”

That feeling of belonging stayed with her during her time at Serna Elementary School, Garner Middle School and MacArthur, where she graduated in 1985. That unforgettable sense of community eventually drew her back to North East ISD.

Reagan as a Junior BrahmadoraBeres began working as a substitute teacher while preparing to pursue a master’s degree in social work. But that’s when she realized she loved teaching. She pivoted careers and found her way back home to MacArthur.

“I’m a big believer in having a sense of community. I raised my kids in North East, all my sisters went here – it’s part of my family. I feel like it gave me such a foundation that I wanted to continue and come back and be a part of it.”

Beres taught U.S. history and government for several years before transitioning into her dream role as an AVID teacher. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It’s a college-readiness course designed to help students chart a path to college.

For Beres, it’s a front-row seat to watching students succeed.

“It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, honestly, because I love AVID so much,” said Beres. “It is so beautiful to see these kids who don’t think college is in the cards for them to not only get in but earn scholarships and thrive!”

Thank you for 50 years of memories, Reagan Beres.
