Discover the Digital Frontier!

2023 MacArthur band drum majors hold the NEISD way sign

The MacArthur High School Band is incorporating an electrifying prop into this year’s halftime show.

When the ‘Big Blue Marching Machine’ takes the field, you’ll see an assortment of light towers strung across the field – some as high as 10 feet! Each can be programmed to turn colors or flash at a specific moment in their ‘Digital Frontier’ show.

The ‘Digital Frontier’ is a mix of baroque music from the 1600s infused with pulsing electronica right out of a Tron movie.

“As the show progresses and you hear different things, certain sets of lights will turn on,” said Hector Trevino, MacArthur director of bands. “As the full band is playing, the entire field will light up. I really wanted to do baroque music but make it a little more modern. The kids have loved it.”

Our Fine Arts students work hard to bring every halftime show to life. High school bands typically begin practicing in late July and into August before school begins. It’s a labor of love for everyone involved. But senior Drum Major Chloe Adams says the long hours spent practicing are worth it. She loves it so much she hopes to one day direct a band of her own.

“This is the best year that I’ve ever experienced in band, and it’s one of my favorite shows that we’ve done. Every time I go to band practice or rehearsal, it feels like something I want to do for the rest of my life. I absolutely love it.”

You’re invited to watch every North East ISD high school band perform during the annual Fall Marching Festival. Mark your calendars for the best show in San Antonio on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Heroes Stadium. The show starts at 7 p.m.
