Jackson-Keller has a lot of happy feet

Excitement filled the library at Jackson-Keller Elementary School as students filed in, waiting to receive a generous gift.

Assistance League San Antonio provided a brand new pair of shoes and several pairs of socks to every student at Jackson-Keller.

Nearly 600 pairs of shoes in total!

“We decided to give all of the children in the school a new pair of shoes and a package of socks,” said Gwynn Kemmersehl, Chairman of Operation School Bell. “They are on an extended calendar and so are going to go through school all the way through June. We hope that the shoes are large enough and will last through to the start of school in the fall.”

The students couldn’t believe their eyes when they opened up the boxes and saw their brand-new shoes. They couldn’t try them on fast enough.

They were dancing and laughing and showing each other their shoes.

Assistance League volunteers made sure the shoes fit, and if they didn’t, they found the students a pair that did.

This is the first year for Operation School Bell. Assistance League San Antonio chose Jackson-Keller because they already have a great relationship with the school, and they hope to provide even more students with shoes next year.

Thank you, Assistance League San Antonio!
