Campus Safety Specialist Spotlight: Camelot's Jason Sattiewhite

“I took this job because I wanted to make a difference in the children’s lives.”

Jason Sattiewhite walks about 15,000 steps a day in his effort to make a difference in the lives of children at Camelot Elementary School

The first hundred or so steps are earned during his perimeter checks first thing every morning.

Another couple hundred or so are racked up while he checks every door on campus, ensuring they lock and are secure.

He gets a few hundred more steps in on Fridays when he joins the students for Friday Dance Parties before heading back outside and securing the perimeter of the campus at dismissal.

Sattiewhite is one of North East ISD’s campus safety specialists (CSS). Our safety specialist position fulfills the House Bill 3 requirement that an armed security officer is present at each campus. They are stationed at our elementary schools and are solely focused on security. They monitor school grounds, ensure doors are locked, security cameras are working, and fencing and parking lots are secure. They also lead safety drills and training.

Sattiewhite has worked in security for about 15 years, but this security detail is by far his most meaningful.

“Security showed me how to protect an asset. These students aren’t just an asset. They are our future. And it’s something that we need to nurture, something that we need to foster. Because at the end of the day, all of these kids are going to become something great and we have to protect that energy.”

Our highly trained CSS team undergoes continuous training throughout the year to ensure they are ready for any security threat. They are a vital part of our multi-level security and safety processes, helping to keep our students and staff safe.

“I want the parents and educators to know that these children are safe. I want them to understand that I’m someone that they can trust. I’m someone they can rely on.”
