Michael Gossett

Welcome parents and students to my NEISD web page.  My name is Michael Gossett and I'm honored to be part of the Nimitz / STEM Team.  I'm excited to be the 8th Grade U.S. History Honors Teacher for the STEM Academy, and look forward to working with each student this year.  I can't wait to meet each of you, and I know that we have an awesome year ahead of us!  I would like to let you know a little information about myself.  I originally came from Yorktown, Indiana, and I moved to Texas twenty-three years ago.  I live within the NEISD area.  I'm married and have two children.  My wife is also a teacher. Besides having two children, a son and a daughter, I have five grand-daughters.  I have two Bachelor of Science degrees from Ball State University, in Indiana.  I have nearly completed a masters degree in public administration, also.  I taught Criminal Justice and Criminology in Indiana for two years, and then moved to Texas.  I taught for five years for San Antonio ISD, and in NEISD for two years at Roosevelt High School, and one year at Harris Middle School, prior to coming to the STEM Academy.  I am starting my twenty-sixth year of teaching this year, and my sixteenth year with STEM.  I love teaching Social Studies and working with children, and I'm very excited about teaching your student.  In my free time I enjoy reading (especially about history), researching the history of Texas, collecting stamps and coins, and working with woods and ceramics.  I feel very strongly about creating a community in my classroom.  This community will always include parents as partners.  I know how important each of your children are and I will treat them as I would like my own children to be treated.  My goal each year is to help each student find success, and to help them on their way to becoming a productive citizen in our community.  I look forward to a successful year, and appreciate your assistance in making this happen in U.S. History Honors.
