Community Champs

Students with Champs personnel A massive shout-out to Champs Sports!

Their team provided Johnson High School with more than 1,500 pieces of clothing—slides, shorts, shirts, jackets and some athletic equipment.

“Helping the community is one of our company’s core values,” said Champs District Manager Jim Murto. “What a perfect way to help by providing some much-needed apparel to these kids. If our clothes can help them feel better about themselves—that’s all the more reason to help.”

This donation started with a conversation at a local store between Murto and a Johnson substitute teacher. The sub noticed some of her students were in need. So, she simply asked if Champs could help. Murto connected with Johnson’s Family Engagement Liason, Ruby Morris, to find the best way to help. Then Murto drove down to McAllen, loaded up a U-Haul with clothing from their outlet, and drove it back to deliver it.

“This is so generous. It’s so much stuff,” said Morris. “This is an exciting donation and will impact students across our District. We don’t want clothing to be a barrier to these students learning. If those needs aren’t addressed, then the learning can’t happen. This donation is incredible for our kids and will go a long way in helping them learn.”
