Cynthia Silguero-Gaytan is the kind of person you want in your corner.
As a counselor, she’s the ultimate helper. She’s been helping children, parents, teachers and staff for more than 30 years, including the last 14 at Cibolo Green Elementary School.
Early in her career, she felt a call to teach high school students, but a chance to start her counseling career at an elementary school inspired her to switch gears.
“I felt like I’d seen the end result in high school, and now I was living in the ‘beginning’ but I saw the connection there,” said Cynthia. “This is the foundation for these kids – not just academically, but socially and emotionally. This is where we build them up into who they are going to be.”
Cynthia knows how crucial a child’s formative years can be. She takes pride in being a bilingual educator and knows how impactful a positive school community can be for a child and their family. She was the first person in her family to graduate from college, and she always looks for opportunities to encourage the next generation of achievers to go after their dreams.
“I’m passionate about what I do. There were so many people that helped my family in the school system, and that made a huge impression on me.”
But that level of unwavering support and passion isn’t reserved just for her students. Every parent and staff member knows she has an open door policy.
“Counselors are there for everybody,” said Cynthia. “Once you open the door for people, it becomes a revolving door – whether it’s a teacher or a staff member or a parent. Our ultimate customers are the children, but if we’re helping mom and dad or our teachers, we’re helping out the kiddos.”
Cynthia leads with her heart, and the entire community is better for it.
