A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Fifth grade boys listen and greet SAPD Chief McManus

Wilderness Oak Elementary School’s very own League of Extraordinary Gentlemen learned about the importance of making a good first impression with a little help from a special guest.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus dropped by Suzanne Horan’s classroom to surprise a group of fifth grade boys who are embracing what it means to be a gentleman #theNEISDway

The boys were dressed as sharp as the questions they had for Chief McManus. They asked him how he got his start in law enforcement, what his job entails and why first impressions are so important.

“A first impression will never go away, and neither will a bad impression, so always keep that in mind,” said McManus. “The fact that you’re here speaks volumes to the support you have from your family, teachers and counselors.”

The league is open to all fifth grade boys. Horan credits Hidden Forest Elementary School counselor Sarah Ojeda with helping spark the idea to start a group for young men on campus.

Each month, our League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will hear from a special guest about the importance of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring for others and citizenship.

“It’s our goal to give our young gentlemen the character-building tools they need to help them develop into courteous and honorable men,” said Horan.
