Roan Forest teacher hits the Red Carpet

Specia Maika TrevinoA big congratulations is in order for Roan Forest Elementary School Music Teacher Matthew Trevino. For the second year in a row, he’s been awarded the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation Teachers of Excellence award.

“Matthew Trevino is truly a special music teacher, and he does a tremendous job promoting the wonderful young musicians at Roan Forest Elementary,” said NEISD Fine Arts Director of Music Programs Philip Flynn. “Mr. Trevino provides his students with countless opportunities to perform and collaborate with other amazing musicians. His choir and percussion students perform annually at San Antonio Spurs games, at the Tobin Center for the Arts, and at statewide music conferences. Mr. Trevino could not be more deserving of this recognition, and we are so thrilled for him!”

Last night, Trevino accepted his award in Nashville, Tennessee. Roan Forest Principal Chris Specia and NEISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sean Maika also made the trip to cheer him on. Along with his win, Trevino received $5,000 to support himself and his program.
