North East ISD plans to open early college high school

The North East ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a plan to create an early college high school at MacArthur High School that will open in the fall of 2024.

Our District is partnering with Alamo Colleges to allow students to graduate with up to 60 college credit hours and an associate’s degree that are transferable to a 4-year institution. Students will also be able to earn Industry Based Certifications (IBC). Thanks to a grant and recent legislation, students can earn these college credits at no charge to them or their families.

It will offer students opportunities to focus their coursework on in-demand careers like teaching, accounting and the hospitality industry. For students interested in teaching, they will be able to get real-world experience by working with teachers at our elementary campuses. Students interested in business and hospitality will have opportunities to work closely with industry leaders in our area through internships and on-the-job training and experience.

The District will accept students for the early college high school for the 2024-2025 school year through a lottery system. More information will be coming soon.
