Medications on Campus
A reminder, per district policy, students are NOT ALLOWED to carry medications on campus. This includes medicated lip balms, cough drops and throat lozenges. In addition, students are NOT ALLOWED to transport medication to the clinic. Parents need to bring in ALL medications to the clinic with a current doctor's order. Over-the counter medications must also have an order.
Students may possess and apply topical sunscreen products while on school property or at a school-related event or activity to avoid overexposure to the sun. Sunscreen is NOT to be shared. Sunscreen is not to be used for any other purpose than application to exposed skin prior to outside activities. The sunscreen used on school property MUST be approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration for over-the-counter use and be a non-aerosol product.
When to Keep Your Student Home
We need parents’ cooperation in not sending children to school who are exhibiting symptoms of illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unexplained rashes, and pink eye.In accordance with Chapter 97, Subchapter A, of the Texas Administrative Code, North East Independent School District requires students with fever be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0 F (37.8 C) or greater.
Parents and guardians are expected to pick their child up as soon as possible if they develop a fever at school. Students who develop a fever at school will be required to stay home from school until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
