Mrs. Michele Barrera

Hi! I love our amazing school and the wonderful community. I have been in Redland for four years now. I have been teaching for 19 years, with over a decade of experience in 5th grade ELAR. I have had the opportunity to teach in various states, such as Virginia and Washington. Also, I have taught every single grade level from PreK to 5th, and they are all my favorites in their ways.

I continue to have the wonderful opportunity to be the MTSS Campus Coordinator(RTI) and Targeted Support Teacher. I am ecstatic to be able to work with all grade levels and support student growth. My goal is to meet students where they are and help them grow.

I have five wonderful children, ages 13 to 26. I have recently become a grandma, and I love it! My grandbabies just turned 2! My husband is a retired military service member, and we have made San Antonio our home. He is also a pilot, so we like to fly small Cessna planes for fun on the weekends. We also love cheering on the Spurs, having family movie nights, walking our dogs, and exploring the city's highlights.

I graduated from Texas A&M Kingsville with my undergraduate and Master's in Instructional Leadership from Concordia University Austin. I have a passion for reading and writing. I can always be found at a bookstore browsing for hours and deciding what new books to add to my collection. Audiobooks are amazing too! I want to instill that joy of reading and writing in all students, so they can share their voices and ideas!
