Mrs. Kerri Puhl
Hello! I am one of two Physical Education teachers here at Steubing Ranch Elementary who is most commonly known as "Coach Puhl."
Education:
I have a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, a National Group Fitness Certification and I'm certified to teach Aqua & Senior Fitness Classes. I am also CPR & AED certified, and I am the past Water Sports Chair for the Recreation Div. for TAHPERD (Tx., Assoc. for Health, PE, Recreation & Dance Assoc.).
Family:
My husband and I met in college while playing collegiate sports at The University of the Incarnate Word. My husband played basketball & I played volleyball on scholarships. We celebrated our 30-year wedding anniversary this past summer. We have 3 grown children who I often talk about in class. My oldest daughter graduated from the University of Virginia and works and lives with her husband in Washington DC. My son graduated from Southwestern University and played basketball all four years there, is married and has a baby girl named Sparrow who live & work here in San Antonio. Last, but not least, my youngest daughter graduated from The University of Texas in Austin with a nursing degree and currently works for STUMO at UT.
My husband and I are now Empty Nesters, but we love doing fun hobbies like hiking, playing a variety of sports, especially water sports these days and Pickleball, taking road trips and reading when there is time. We also have a crazy dog that keeps us busy.
Personal:
This will be my 25th year in education, and I am as passionate and excited about teaching today as I was the first day I started! I love seeing kids moving, learning, playing, laughing, collaborating and working hard because movement is life and PE is often the place where we first learn how to move properly, socialize and work together for a common goal.
PE:
We do many fun activities in P.E. and I am so excited about some of the things that we will be doing this year, such as 9 Square in the Air, Birdie Ball Golf, Paddle Games and possibly fishing . Some of the other units we will cover will be Gymnastics, Noodle Hockey, Jump Rope, Obstacle Courses, Basketball, Volleyball (3-5), Crazy Games, Cup Stacking, Fitness Stations, Shark Week and so much more! The coaches also organize a Turkey Trot for students, a Jingle Bell Walk around the school, a Cardio Club for 3rd-5th graders during class and an annual school-wide FIELD DAY!
Goals for students:
I want kids to have a basic understanding of what healthy foods are, work on their social and emotional skills as they often work in teams in PE, improve their physical skills and to find activities and games they love and continue to do throughout their life to stay physically and mentally healthy.
It's gonna be a great year!
In Health,
Coach Puhl
