Dr. June Taliaferro

Welcome! My name is June Taliaferro and it is my pleasure to serve the families of the NEAC campus community. I was born on the beautiful island of Tobago and immigrated to the United States in 1981.

In 1988, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and in 2001 I entered the teaching profession and received both a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Educational Leadership, along with a principal certification, and later a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). During my time in the doctoral program, I served as Graduate Assistant and Doctoral Fellow in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) department at UTSA. My journey in education has allowed me to collaborate with UTSA professors to also publish research findings and present at national symposiums. To date, I have written chapters for two books and I am also a recipient of the UTSA Barbara Jackson Scholar Award.

I am blessed to have classroom teaching experience in all general education content at both the elementary and middle school levels and have also taught intervention and AVID courses. I have served as district workshop facilitator and national presenter for Quantum Learning Education under the direction of Mark Reardon, co-author of "Quantum Teaching: Orchestrating Student Success".

Through all of my life experiences, one thing remains constant: my passion for serving children and families. As such, I am very active in nonprofit work. I am the founder of a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Light the Borders, which supports impoverished communities along the Texas-Mexico border. Since founding Light the Borders in 2008, I have also provided gratuitous consultation services to several individuals and organizations seeking to start or develop their own nonprofit organizations to improve the lives of individuals experiencing chronic poverty and emotional and psychological pain and suffering. These organizations facilitate recovery support primarily through the provision of food, shelter, clothing, faith-based nurturance, job training, mentoring, building homes for the homeless, and connections to other service-based organizations. My latest endeavor is a nonprofit organization in my home country of Tobago.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my webpage. I invite you to return from time to time throughout the school year for important information and resources. One of my personal goals this year is to learn Hebrew. Shanah tovah (שנה טובה) Have a great year!
