Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Daily Schedule
Arrival and Dismissal
School Hours 7:30 AM – 2:45 PM
Early Dismissal 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Students should not arrive at school before 7:00 AM. There is no adult supervision until 7:00 AM.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade will use the main entrance of the school on Cascade Place.
Pre-Kindergarten students will enter the building at the side entrance on Timberlane Drive.
If a student is to be released prior to regular dismissal, please send a note. The person who is picking up the child must be listed on the emergency card and should come into the office to sign out the child. The child will then be called from the classroom. ID is REQUIRED when picking up a student.
At Wilshire, we value instructional time, therefore we ask that parents not pick up students early unless there is an emergency situation. Please make sure that the office maintains current phone numbers in case of emergencies and that the teacher is notified, in writing, ahead of time about how your child will be going home. For safety reasons, changes to the way students are dismissed will not be allowed over the phone or after 2:00 PM to allow for proper communication between all parties involved.
In addition, no student may be signed out after 2:00 PM due dismissal procedures and safety reasons. Dismissal time is 2:45 PM.
Students in Kindergarten and 5th Grade are dismissed from the front entrance of the school on Cascade Place.
Students in Pre-Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 4th Grade are dismissed at the side exit on Timberlane Drive.
Students in 1st Grade and 2nd Grade are dismissed at the side exit on Cresham Drive.
We also ask that you not interrupt instructional time by trying to visit with the teacher during the instructional day. Please set up a conference or leave a message for the teacher to contact you by phone. Please allow 24 hours for the teacher to respond.
If there is a change in how your child will go home, you must send a note to the teacher. If the school does not receive a note from the parent, then the student will be sent home the way he/she normally goes home. Changes to how a student goes home will not be accepted over the phone.
Drop Off/Pick Up
Please use the far-right lane to drop off and pick up your child so they may use the sidewalk to safely walk to and from the building.
If you are walking your child to the entrance, please park in the parking spaces in the parking lot. PLEASE DO NOT park along the curb (fire lane) in front of the school or leave your vehicle running and unattended or leave children in the vehicle alone.
Reminders:
1. Supervision for students begins at 7:00 AM.
2. Morning announcements begin at 7:30 AM.
3. School ends at 2:45 PM.
Absences
When a student is absent from school, please call the school office (407-9400) and have your child bring a note from home. If a student misses instructional time due to a medical appointment, please bring a note from the attending physician. Absences are only excused with a parent note or doctor’s note.
Tardies
It is equally important for your child to be at school on time. The goal is for students to be at school by 7:40 AM. The first bell rings at 7:25 AM. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 AM. Students are expected to be in the classroom at 7:30 AM for the start of the instructional day. Tardies interfere with instruction and the start of the school day. Please make sure that your child is on time to school each day. If a student arrives after 7:30 AM, the parent is required to sign in the student with the office before the child may attend class. When students are present and on time, it assists them in starting their day in a positive manner.

Cell Phones/Personal Electronic Devices
It is the belief of the North East ISD that a partnership between the school administrators, teachers, and parents/guardians is needed to teach our students to be responsible and emphasize the importance of the District’s cell phone/personal electronic devices guidelines. An active partnership will help ensure student compliance and be beneficial in emphasizing the student’s duty to become a responsible digital consumer.
During the instructional day, or while attending school-sponsored or school-related activities, on or off school property, during school hours, cell phone and personal electronic devices, including but not limited to audio and/or video recording equipment or devices and cameras of any type, that are not being used as a technology resource for approved academic purposes, and/or the principal or his/her designee has not given permission to use the cell phone/personal electronic device, the device must remain turned off and not visible during the school day.
Students at Wilshire are expected to keep cell phones/personal electronic devices stored in a backpack.
For additional information, please consult the NEISD Elementary School Student / Parent Handbook.
