Safety Response Protocol

In order to prepare students, staff, and parents for emergencies, NEISD has implemented easy-to-understand Safety Response Protocols for our community to follow. By understanding these protocols, everyone is better equipped to stay safe and support in the event of an emergency on our campus:

HOLD: Stay in the classroom and clear the halls.

Students are directed to clear the hallways and remain in their classrooms while conducting regular activities. This allows our dedicated staff to address an issue while ensuring the safety of everyone involved. An example of this scenario is a medical emergency.

SECURE: Go inside.

Students are guided to seek refuge within the school building. While inside, the school day continues as normal. An example of this scenario is criminal activity taking place near the campus.

LOCKDOWN: Get out of sight.

Students and staff conduct themselves in a discreet manner. Lights are turned off and doors are locked while everyone moves out of sight and maintains silence. NEISD is prepared to respond as needed, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all. An example of this scenario is an intruder or weapon on campus.

EVACUATE: Leave for a new location.

Students immediately gather in a designated evacuation area while all belongings are left behind. An example of this scenario is a gas leak or chemical spill.

SHELTER: Drop, cover, hold.

Students are relocated to a shelter area where they are instructed to drop, cover, and hold as a safety strategy. An example of this scenario is a hazmat situation or weather event, such as a tornado.

Our commitment to safety at NEISD empowers a culture of preparation. We believe proactive solutions are key to providing a feeling of collective security in the modern day educational environment. By learning these protocols, students are equipped with the knowledge they need to stay calm and responsive in emergencies, keeping themselves and their classmates safe and secure.

Promoting a Safe Environment

At NEISD, safety is our top priority. We strive to foster a learning environment where students and staff feel protected. To maintain safety for our students and security across our campuses, our “See Something, Say Something” initiative offers anyone to utilize our confidential North East Tip Line to report any safety concerns.

Our tip line allows students, teachers, parents and staff to discreetly report any suspicious activity or safety concerns. We take every tip seriously and investigate promptly.

By working together we can keep our school community safe and secure, ensuring the well-being of our students and staff. We encourage everyone to keep their eyes open and utilize our tip line if they notice anything concerning which is why "See Something, Say Something" is more than a phrase; it's a call to action.

Through collaboration and communication, we will continue providing a safe educational environment where our students can thrive. NEISD strongly recommends both students and parents review our Safety Response Protocols so everyone can stay safe and be supported during an emergency.

SMART Bus Travel Procedures

Our Transportation Department has introduced an innovative solution to enhance the safety of our youngest bus riders. NEISD has implemented the SMART Tag ID system on elementary buses to enhance safety. Students scan their ID Tag when boarding or exiting, providing real-time data and security on students without sacrificing time or NEISD safety standards.

The SMART Tag system offers a range of advantages that enhance both efficiency and safety:

Enhanced Student Verification: Bus drivers instantly view student names and photos on their tablets upon tag scans, ensuring accurate bus stop departures and arrivals.
Authorized Pick Up Validation: Bus drivers can easily identify authorized parents and guardians during pick up to further enhance security even off campus grounds.
Parental Engagement: Parents and guardians have access to an online portal for text notifications, alerting them when the bus is 15 minutes from arrival and when their child boards or disembarks.
Real-time Route Tracking: Transportation staff and school administrators can monitor real-time route data, allowing dispatchers the ability to observe live GPS bus locations and passenger data on maps.
