Welcome to 5th Grade at Wilderness Oak! I am looking forward to an exciting 2019-2020 school year! I feel so blessed to be teaching at Wilderness Oak, the best school in San Antonio! I have been teaching for 21 years, and have been at Wilderness Oak since it opened 14 years ago. I love our school and think 5th graders are the best! I know this is going to be a thrilling year filled with learning, leadership, fun, and new friends!
Teaching 5th graders is an awesome job! I always dreamed of becoming a teacher while growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas. After high school graduation, I began my road to becoming a teacher at the University of Texas at San Antonio, then continued my education, and received my Masters in Reading at the University of North Texas. I started my career in Dallas, Texas teaching 6th grade, and later became the Reading Specialist, and worked with students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. I eventually made my way into a 5th grade classroom, and never looked back. I just fell in love with 5th grade students! Fifth graders are smart, fun to be around, and they love to explore new topics. Some of the additional perks of teaching 5th grade are all the "special" activities we are able to do as students finish up their "final" year of elementary school. We stay very busy!
My family is very important to me! I have a wonderful husband, and have been married to him for 26 years. My daughters are Wilderness Oak alumni too. Both my daughters attended Lopez M.S., and Reagan H.S. Go Panthers! Go Rattlers! My oldest daughter is attending Texas A & M University College Station, and will be doing her student teaching this Fall - Gig'Em! My youngest daughter is beginning her sophomore year at UT Tyler. Her goal is to become a nurse. I am a very pround mom! We also have two very cute, and very active dogs. Meg, who loves playing with her toys, and Presley, who likes to cuddle. Between teaching, enjoying family time and playing with the pups, I love to read, enjoy swimming, shopping and hanging out with my friends. I look forward to an awesome year filled with leadership, fun, exploration, and new knowledge! Adventure Awaits for the Class of 2020!!
