Nathan Sharplin

Welcome - thank you for visiting my webpage!

I have enjoyed a diverse musical upbringing, with varied experiences as a performer and educator.  My favorite thing about teaching is sharing my experiences and love of music with students through engaging and exciting performances.  As a member of the Reagan Orchestra, your child's learning will be enriched and transformed by experiencing genuine connections through music. Every member of this program enjoys many opportunities to engage and grow, like our four standard concerts each academic year or extra-curricular contests such as UIL Solo & Ensemble.  In addition to musical opportunities, your child can also take advantage of multiple social and service events throughout the year.

Prior to coming to the Reagan community in 2015, I taught middle school orchestra in Harlingen, Texas. I consider myself a passionate educator, and I believe that music is a positive and powerful tool that can change lives, communities, and the world.  Currently I am the assistant director of orchestras at Ronald Reagan High School where I lead several ensembles and teach AP music theory.  Both of my degrees are in music from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

In the summer of 2018, I completed training in the Suzuki Method through Harp Units 1 and 2. For more information on the Suzuki Method, please visit the Suzuki Association of the Americas website.  In 2019, the Reagan Orchestra was awarded funding through the San Antonio City Council's District 9 People's Budget.  These funds were used to provide lever harps to students participating in NEISD's 5th Grade Strings Program within the Reagan cluster.  Since joining the faculty, the Reagan Orchestra has enjoyed several prestigious performances and invitations. Such engagements include the Chamber Orchestra and Harp Ensemble performances at the 2019 Midwest International Band & Orchestra Conference in Chicago.  In February 2021 the Chamber Orchestra gave a virtual concert as a featured ensemble at the renowned Texas Music Educators Association convention, and in May of the same year the Sinfonia Orchestra was an invited performing ensemble at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

Thank you again for choosing the Reagan Orchestra - I look forward to meeting you online or on stage very soon! If you'd like to learn more about our program, please send me an email at nsharp@neisd.net.

Be sure to check out the Reagan Orchestra Website  and Reagan Orchestra Calendar to stay up to date on all of our upcoming performances and accomplishments!
