What is the STEM Academy?
The STEM Academy is a magnet school program that increases student achievement through innovative STEM instruction, serving as a model for math and science education. Our approach engages students in problem-based learning, empowering them with skills to be successful in modern career fields.

How does the curriculum differ from a traditional school?
STEM Academy serves as a model of problem-based, technology-rich curriculum. The academics at STEM enables students to engage as professionals, using science and math as breakthrough tools for discovery, innovation and independent problem-solving.

How does the program prepare students for college and careers?
With our highly specialized academics, all STEM Academy students graduate with a STEM Endorsement in the specialization of their chosen field. Additionally, a recent graduating class earned over $5 million in scholarships and financial aid.

What types of projects and activities are involved?
STEM Academy installs problem-focused projects to set an emphasis on revelations and original thoughts. We fully embrace technology as part of the education process in every STEM classroom.

Yes, every student participates in required safety lessons before using equipment or performing any experiments.

What are the prerequisites and deadlines for applying to STEM?

What grades are eligible for STEM?
STEM Academy serves grades 6-12, with the middle school serving grades from 6-8, while high school teaches grades 9-12.

What related extracurriculars are available to students?
Students can join clubs like Science Fair, Academic UIL, Debate, Robotics, Coding, and more. High school students can also partake in leadership roles as STEM Ambassadors.

How qualified are STEM Instructors?
Many of our instructors at STEM have specialized training in their respective content areas, developing an attitude of exploration across our magnet school program.

How does the program encourage diversity?
With open admissions, 45% of our students are economically disadvantaged, while only 15% are in gifted programs. This leads to an inclusive, diverse student population.

Is transportation available for students?
Shuttle buses provide transportation between NEISD home campuses and STEM Academy. Students outside district boundaries will have to provide their own transportation.
