What is NESA?
NESA is a prestigious arts magnet school program for gifted and talented students grades 9-12. Located on the campus of LEE High School, we offer rigorous academics and personalized artistic training in seven majors: Cinema, Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Musical Theater, Technical Theater, and Visual Art.

Who can apply to NESA?
NESA is an open-enrollment magnet school program available to all students regardless of school district boundaries.

How do I buy tickets?
Tickets for NESA performances can be purchased here.

How many students attend NESA?
Approximately 300 students are enrolled at NESA.

What is the NESA application and audition process?
NESA Applications are accepted year-round, with auditions being held three times a year. Complete applications include an online form, resume, essay (for some majors), teacher/counselor recommendations, transcript, and current grades.

Can students be in more than one major?
Students can audition for up to three majors. If accepted in multiple majors, students can choose one as their primary focus while taking core courses for the others. Juniors and seniors can double-major with approval from both programs.

How many students are accepted each school year?
The number varies by major, grade level, and available space. Acceptances are based on audition scores within the gifted and talented range, not predetermined quotas. This allows for all students that score within the gifted and talented range to be accepted into our program.

Can students transfer to NESA during the school year?
No, due to the sequential curriculum, NESA only accepts new students through the annual audition process (October, January, and April) for the following school year.

Can students enroll at NESA for art classes only?
No, all students are officially enrolled at NESA, taking all core classes with LEE High School.

What if the application deadline is missed?
We accept applications year-round, but those not submitted by the published deadline will be considered for the next audition date.

When are audition results received?
All students who audition will receive a results letter via email approximately two weeks after their audition date.

Do students have to live within NEISD boundaries to attend NESA?
No, students do not have to reside within NEISD school boundaries to attend NESA. We accept students from across San Antonio and surrounding areas.

Does NESA provide transportation for students?
NEISD provides transportation for NEISD students from their assigned campus to NESA. Students outside the district must arrange their own transportation.

How can parents be involved?
Parents can join pARTners, the NESA booster club, to volunteer and support fundraising efforts.
