    NESA’s dance major builds versatile, well-rounded dancers through a curriculum spanning contemporary, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, lyrical, and improvisational dance. With technique and terminology rooted from the foundations of ballet, students develop artistry and skill to confidently audition for scholarships and professional work.

    Our curriculum is meticulously crafted to provide students with a comprehensive dance education that encompasses a wide range of styles, techniques, and artistic expression. Through choreography workshops, rehearsals, and performances with guest artists and experienced faculty, NESA dancers thrive in our supportive community. Annual concerts highlight the vast skills taught by featuring diverse styles and original pieces set by local and international choreographers. With individualized training tailored to each student’s strengths, NESA graduates continue to earn placements dancing with Broadway shows, theme parks, cruise lines, and more.

     

  • Educational Areas of Dance

    Ballet: Students dive into the world of ballet, studying technique, terminology, and history. Technique classes help dancers grow and improve, preparing them for college and scholarship auditions.

    Jazz: Students explore the world of jazz, crafting their skills in progressions, combinations, leaps, and turns. They learn to perform with precision, rhythm, and expressive style.

    Tap: The art of tap dancing focuses on rhythmic accuracy and command of the vocabulary. Students learn a variety of tap styles and techniques, from classic Broadway to contemporary styles.

    Lyrical and Contemporary: Lyrical and contemporary dance combine the strong but controlled legwork of ballet with elements of modern and jazz dance, focusing on the contract and release of the body and unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction. These styles often utilize smooth, fluid movement and expression of emotions.

    Improvisational Dance: Students embrace the freedom of improvisational dance, allowing their creativity to flow freely. Improv provides a unique platform for self-expression and experimentation through dance.
