Alternative Elementary School (AES)

  • The Alternative Elementary School (AES) is an alternative education program for the student who has exhibited either serious or persistent misconduct on the home campus.

In-Take
Conference
An enrollment conference is required before the student can be admitted into the AES program.
Both the student and a parent/guardian must meet with the AES Principal, Assistant Principal, or Counselor prior to entering the classroom.
The student and parent should arrive at 7:45 a.m. to complete the necessary paperwork in the office at Wilshire. The conference with the student and parent is held at 8:00 a.m. the day of entry.
It is imperative that parents and students arrive on time in order to enhance the efficiency of the program. Parents must enter at the Wilshire main entrance on Cascade and sign in at the office. Parents are required to show picture identification. Parking is available in front.
The AES program has the following fundamental goals for each student:

A. Understand the misbehavior/consequence relationship.
B. Analyze the behavior that resulted in the assignment to AES.
C. Accept responsibility for that behavior.
D. Develop an appreciation for the opportunities afforded on the home campus.
E. Acquire alternative replacement behaviors in an effort to avoid a return to AES.
If the AES program is to be an effective experience for the student, both the student and the parent/guardian must accept certain responsibilities.

1. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
2. Complete assigned work in a conscientious, timely, and accurate manner.
3. Comply with the established district policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
4. Comply with the rules, policies, and procedures of the AES program.
