Hello Wilderness Oak Wolves! My name is Deanna Cupero, and I am the Dyslexia Therapist at Wilderness Oak.  I feel blessed to be teaching and working with students with dyslexia at the best school in San Antonio!  I have been teaching for 26 years, and have taught at Wilderness Oak for the last 19 years. I have been a Wolf since the school opened in 2005.  I transitioned to dyslexia therapy 4 years ago.  I love our school community and am passionate about teaching children to read and challenging them to find their "superpowers".  

I always dreamed of becoming a teacher. I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I later attended the University of North Texas, earning my Master of Education in Reading. I began my career in Dallas, Texas teaching 6th grade, and later worked as a K-6 Reading Specialist. We moved to San Antonio and I began teaching at Wilderness Oak in 2005 as a 5th grade teacher. In 2020, I embarked on the journey of becoming a Certified Academic Language Therapist (Dyslexia Therapist) and completed my Take Flight training in 2022. 

My family brings me pure joy and happiness. I have a wonderful husband and have been married for 31 years. My daughters are Wilderness Oak alumni too.  They attended Lopez M.S. and Reagan H.S. My oldest daughter graduated from Texas A&M and is teaching 3rd grade.  My youngest daughter attended UT Tyler and is a Neuro PCU nurse at a local hospital.  I am a very proud mom! We also have one very cute and cuddly dog, Presley, and have a nearly 1 year-old puppy, Sophie. They keep me busy, but I love my cuddle time.  I enjoy reading, cooking, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to an awesome year filled with reading, fun, and excitement!
